NACDL Board Member and FACDL Past President Nellie L. King has been selected as the Winner of the 2017 Women in Leadership Award

NACDL Board Member and FACDL Past President Nellie L. King has been selected as the Winner of the 2017 Women in Leadership Award, Private Sector, from the Executive Women of the Palm Beaches.  Nellie was nominated by a local attorney of high regard for her work in traveling around Florida making presentations on Clemency Project 2014 in an effort to recruit volunteers to write the petitions.  Nellie spoke to numerous voluntary bar organizations around the state and in the name of NACDL.  One attorney, who was recently the first African American elected to the bench in Palm Beach County, and who agreed to take one of the clemency cases, spoke about how it was a career-changing moment when he was able to call his client in DOC and inform him he was going home.  He was talking about NACDL and the Project at his robing ceremony!

This award ceremony is May 11th - it is going to be an amazing afternoon, with keynote speaker Captain Mark Kelly, Commander of Space Shuttle Endeavor’s Final Mission and husband of former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.  There are 700 people expected in attendance.  For anyone who wants to register for the event, the website is http://www.ewpb.org/ .
